BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. --- The East Carolina men's golf team posted a score of 9-over-par 297 in round one of the Mountaineer Invitational Monday before second round play was halted due to darkness. The Pirates finished the opening round tied for sixth-place, eight strokes back of first-place Cincinnati.
Completion of the second will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. EDT with final round play to commence immediately following.
Freshman Patrick Stephenson paced the Pirates' five-man team with an opening round score of 1-over 73. Fellow rookie Blake Taylor and redshirt junior Jackson Spires are one stroke behind their teammate at 2-over 73. Junior Tim Conover finished his opening round at 4-over 76.
Redshirt junior Clay Brown, who is playing as an individual in his first event of the season, shot par-72 and was tied for 12th at the end of round one.
Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) led the field after round one at 4-under 68.
