October 10, 2016 | Soccer
GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, the East Carolina women's soccer team has received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's College Team Academic Award for its performance in the classroom during the 2015-16 school year.
A total of 893 soccer teams (315 men, 578 women) earned the recognition for exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
The Pirates compiled a 3.51 cumulative GPA and was one of just five teams in the American Athletic Conference to earn the recognition along with Memphis (3.7), Temple (3.51), Cincinnati (3.51) and SMU (3.27).
