
ECU Tied For Fourth At Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. -Â After two rounds of play at the Elon Phoenix Invitational, the East Carolina men's golf team sits tied for fourth-place after posting a 1-under-par 567 at the Alamance Country Club.
The Pirates trail Gardner-Webb (-10) by nine strokes for first-place, second-place tournament host Elon (-3) by two strokes and one stroke behind third-place Presbyterian (-2). George Mason also fired a 1-under-par to equal ECU.
Freshman Blake Taylor led the way for East Carolina, finishing the day in sixth-place at 6-under-par 136. Taylor posted a 5-under 66 to start the day and then fired a 1-under-par 70 in round two. He buried 12 birdie putts on the day, second-most among the 90-player field.
After shooting a 1-over-par in round one, junior Tim Conover carded a 2-under-par 70 in the second round to finish the day tied for 20th at 1-under-par with 10 birdies and 18 pars.
Freshman Logan Shuping carded a 1-over-par 142 shooting rounds of 72 and 71 with senior teammate Jacks Sides shooting consecutive rounds of 1-over-par 72 to complete the first two rounds at 2-over-par 144.Â
Redshirt junior Jackson Spires and freshman Patrick Stephenson each carded back-to-back rounds of 73 to end their days at 4-over-par 176.
Jose Montano of North Carolina holds the overall individual lead at 10-under par 132 and holds a one stroke lead over George Washington's Logan Lowe and Elon's Jake Leavitt.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.  ECU will be paired with George Mason and Loyola (Md.) and tee off hole No. 1 at 8:40 a.m.
