Pirates Complete Coastal Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. - Senior Michelle Castro, sophomore Annija Veinsteina and freshman Lisa Hofbauer posted perfect 3-0 singles marks as the East Carolina women's tennis team completed a successful run at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Saturday.
Castro notched a pair of straight-set singles victories over UNCG's Nancy Bridges and Campbell's Isabel Boada, while holding on for a three-set triumph against the host team's Romane Delay. Hofbauer had nearly identical success with straight-set wins victories against UNCG's Alice Taylor and Campbell's Alexandra Andrivot, before topping Coastal's Sara Bondar in three sets. Veinsteina won all three of her individual bouts in straight sets against UNCG's Blaine Boaz, Campbell's Lea Cutura and the Chanticleers' Brooke Campbell.
In doubles, junior Maria Gomez and freshman Nastja Rettich cruised as the only Pirate tandem to win all three of its matches and did so in dominant fashion. The duo topped a pair of players from Campbell (6-0), UNCG (6-0) and Coastal Carolina (6-1), while Hofbauer and sophomore Celia Ruiz finished play with two-consecutive wins.
East Carolina will play its final fall tournament of 2016 when it heads to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Kitty Harrison Invitational Nov. 4-6.
