
Jones And Spitler Named September Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina senior wide receiver Zay Jones and senior forward Lana Spitler have been selected the male and female Student-Athletes of the Month following an outstanding September athletically.

Jones set the school and American Athletic Conference record for receptions in a game with 22 at South Carolina Sept. 17, falling just one short of matching the NCAA single-game mark. Jones is the NCAA active leader in receptions and the No. 2 active player in FBS career receiving yards. He is also the ECU career leader in receptions and receiving yardage. Jones was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll Sept. 18 for his accomplishments against the Gamecocks.

Spitler compiled nine points on four goals and an assist in five matches during September. She recorded her second multi-goal effort of the season in a 3-2 victory over Charlotte Sept. 11 and was tabbed to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll as a result. Spitler leads the Pirates in points, goals, shots and shots on goal.

The football team is scheduled to return to action Saturday, Oct. 8, for a league game at USF while the soccer squad will travel to Memphis for a conference matchup Thursday, Oct. 6.
