MEMPHIS - The East Carolina women's soccer team dropped its second American Athletic Conference match of the season in a 5-0 road decision at Memphis on Thursday evening at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Memphis (8-3-1, 2-1 AAC) outshot ECU by a 14-9 margin, but the Pirates owned an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Five different players scored a goal for the Tigers, while goalkeeper Maryse Bard-Martel made six saves in 70 minutes in net.
THE GOALS
15th Minute: The Tigers rewarded themselves with early pressure on ECU's defense when Jessica Lisi sent a cross into the box on a corner kick that found Elizabeth Woerner who hit a shot from the right side of the box and into the upper left corner for the first goal of the evening.
24th Minute: Memphis switched the field at midfield and made its way down the sideline when Woerner sent a cross from approximately 10 yards out on far wing by Woerner across the top of the box before it was one-timed in by Valerie Sanderson to push the Tigers' lead to 2-0.
28th Minute: Memphis did not let up with its aggressive offensive approach and struck again just four minutes after its second score when Lisi hit a grounding cross into the center of box, where it was touched by Sanderson to create a loose ball served right to Marie Levasseur who touched in a shot from just over five yards out to push the home club's advantage to 3-0.
60th Minute: The Tigers got settled into the second half before getting back on the attack just 15 minutes into the period when Serena Dolan weaved through several defenders before finishing a shot into the left side for the fourth goal of the night.
67th Minute: Memphis put its fifth goal on the board just seven minutes after its fourth when Marie Levasseur sent a cross to her sister Catherine who needed two touches to settle and fire a shot from up close inside the six-yard box and into the back of the net to increase the lead to 5-0.
