
Pirates Head To The Links At The Mountaineer Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C.—The East Carolina men's golf team returns to the links Oct. 10-11, when it travels to Bridgeport, W.Va., for the 2016 Mountaineer Intercollegiate hosted by West Virginia University.
The two-day, 14-team, 54-hole event at the par-72, 7,308-yard Pet Dye Golf Club begins Monday with 36 holes and an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. ECU will be paired with players from James Madison and Memphis.
The aforementioned foursome will be joined in the field by Akron, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, Seton Hall and Toledo.
In their last outing, the Pirates posted a 15-under-par 837 to win the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate by three strokes over Kennesaw State. Their final total score and opening round score of 271 were both the third-lowest tallies in program history.
Junior Tim Conover picked up his first career win with a 54-hole score of 12-under 201, tying for the second-lowest three round score in ECU lore. He led the 90-player field with 17 birdies, shooting a 4-under 67 in each round. Conover leads the team with a scoring average of 69.00 after eight rounds.
Redshirt junior Jackson Spires sports the Pirates' second-best scoring average – 72.00. In three events and eight rounds, he has posted three rounds of par or better. He tied the ECU single round record with a 64 in the first round of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate a week ago and finished tied for fifth-place at 2-under-par.
Freshmen Blake Taylor and Patrick Stephenson along with senior Jack Sides, who earned his first career top-15 finish last time out, will join Conover and Spires on the Pirates' five-man roster this week. Redshirt junior Clay Brown will make his season debut, playing as an individual.
