November 01, 2016 | Men's Golf
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Carolina junior Tim Conover has been named the American Athletic Conference Men's Golfer-of-the-Month for October, announced the league office Tuesday. It is the first conference accolade of his career.
Conover won his first intercollegiate tournament at the beginning of the month, capturing the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate with a three round score of 12-under-par 201, matching the second lowest 54-hole score in school history. He shot a 4-under-par 67 in each round on the par-71, 6,378-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course on NC State's Centennial Campus. He led all 90 players in the field with 17 birdies en route to becoming the first Pirate since Harold Varner in 2010 to shoot in the 60s all three rounds of a single tournament.
His performance helped ECU win its first tournament of the season, giving the Pirates at least one win for the fourth straight season.
Conover shot under-par in four of the nine rounds he played during October and finished the fall season with a scoring average of 1-under-par. He posted three top-10 finishes during the first half of the 2016-17 slate, placing 10th at the Rod Myers Invitational and fourth at the Janney Invitational.
Conover and his ECU teammates will return to action Feb. 6-7, 2017 at the Sea Best Intercollegiate in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
