
East Carolina Announces 2017 Softball Schedule

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Home games against North Carolina and NC State and two home tournaments help comprise the 2017 East Carolina softball schedule, released Wednesday by school officials and second-year head coach Courtney Oliver.

The Pirates will play a total of 27 home games as well as host the American Athletic Conference Championship tournament.

The campaign kicks off Feb. 10-12 when ECU takes part in the Red and Black Showcase hosted by the University of Georgia. The Pirates will face Syracuse, Winthrop and UGA during the two-day event.

The following weekend, East Carolina makes its home debut with the first of two consecutive tournaments at the ECU Softball Stadium. ECU will take on Bryant, St. Francis (Pa.) and Fordham Feb. 17-19 in the Pirate Clash before welcoming Virginia, Hofstra, Seton Hall and Virginia Tech to Greenville Feb. 24-26 for the Pirate Invitational. Cleveland State will also participate in the Pirate Clash but not face East Carolina.

The Pirates close out a 10-game homestand March 1 with a single game against North Carolina then head across the country over the weekend to Stockton, Calif., for the Louisville Slugger Invitational. ECU will battle Seton Hall, Portland State and host Pacific at Simoni Field.

Following a non-conference home game against Youngstown State March 8, East Carolina will compete in the James Madison Tournament, which also features Pittsburgh, before hosting NC State March 15. The Pirates will then trek south to Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Invitational to tangle with St. Francis (Pa.) and the host Red Raiders. East Carolina returns to Greenville March 21 and 22 for games against state rivals Campbell and Elon.

The remainder of the non-conference schedule features home doubleheaders against Radford (April 5) and NC Central (April 11)Â as well as twinbills at UNCW (March 29) and Longwood (April 19).

ECU will also travel to face USF (April 7-9) and Houston (April 21-23) while hosting UCF (March 31-April 2), Connecticut (April 13-15) and Tulsa (April 28-30).

East Carolina last hosted a conference tournament back in 2011 when it won three-straight games to capture the Conference USA tournament title and make its second-straight NCAA Regional appearance.
