Barnes Announces First East Carolina Lacrosse Recruiting Class

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina lacrosse head coach Amanda Barnes has signed 21 student-athletes to national letters of intent to attend the university and compete for the Pirates beginning in the fall of 2017. The group is comprised of signees hailing from 11 different states including four from North Carolina.

"We are very excited to announce the inaugural recruiting class for the East Carolina women's lacrosse team," Barnes said. "The young women that have committed to play at ECU know that we are striving to be a nationally competitive program and that we are all on a mission to get better at what we do in the classroom and on the lacrosse field every day. We look forward to working with this group of young women to establish an inclusive, open minded and positive competitive team culture. Our staff eagerly awaits welcoming them and their families as members of Pirate Nation next fall."

Lily Avazis | Attack/Midfield | 5-4 | Port Washington, N.Y. (Schrieber High School/Long Island Liberty)

Has started for the varsity team since her freshman year and has helped guide Schrieber to a 33-11 overall record in three seasons
Was the team's leading scorer as a junior, netting a team-best 30 goals as well as seven assists on the way to selection to the Long Island All-American Team
Helped lead the Vikings to the 2015 and 2016 Nassau County Conference II championships
Intends to major in art/graphic design

Madi Bada | Midfield | 5-3 | Lewes, Del. (Sussex Technical High School/ESLC)

Has played three seasons of varsity lacrosse for the Ravens
Sussex Tech Rookie of the Year in 2014
Earned team's Player of the Year award in 2015 and 2016
Led team with 49 of her 87 career goals as a junior, garnering all-state second team and all-conference first team accolades
Intends to major in biology/pre-med

Elizabeth Blumthal | Midfield/Attack | 5-7 | Suwanee, Ga. (North Gwinnett High School/Southern Zone)

Has helped lead the Bulldogs to a 42-14 overall record in three seasons
Tallied 132 goals, 28 assists and 82 ground balls as well as 50 forced turnovers and 121 draws won
Aided North Gwinnett in winning the region championship as a sophomore
Intends to major in nursing with a minor in psychology

Brittany Borchers | Midfield | 5-5 | Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood High School/Tenacity)

Has played on the varsity team all four years of her prep career
Scored 77 goals in her first three seasons, including a team-best 35 her sophomore season
Earned all-state honors as a junior as well as team MVP laurels
Intends to major in exercise physiology

Hannah Callahan | Midfield | 5-0 | Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Northern High School/Rapids Lax)

Has earned three varsity letters in lacrosse as well as four in cross country
Member of the National Honors Society the last two years
Intends to major in business with a minor in Spanish

Samantha Caputo | Midfield | 5-7 | Apex, N.C. (Middle Creek High School/Carolina Flight)

Has competed for the varsity team all three years of her prep career
Has scored 122 goals and notched 37 assists heading into her senior year
Was the offensive MVP for Middle Creek her freshman season after tallying 53 goals and converting 67 percent of her shots
Her brothers Owen and Jake have committed to Duke University to play lacrosse
Intends to major in psychology with a minor in sociology

Lydia Carbuccia | Defense | 5-4 | Durham, N.C. (Durham Academy/Carolina Fever)

Will play her third season of varsity lacrosse for the Cavaliers in the spring of 2017
Earned all-state and all-conference honors as a junior
Led Durham Academy to the TISAC championship in 2015 and 2016
Also competed for the softball and basketball teams
Intends to select a major in the medical field with a minor in psychology

Catherine Cavallaro | Defense | 5-2 | Leesburg, Va. (Woodgrove High School/3D)

Will play her second season of varsity lacrosse for the Wolverines in the spring of 2017
Helped lead Woodgrove to the state title as a junior
Also competed in field hockey and wrestling
Intends to major in heath fitness specialist

Amy Jarvis | Attack | 5-2 | Westminster, Md. (Westminster High School/CheckHers)

Will play her third season of varsity lacrosse for the Owls in the spring of 2017
Westminster was undefeated her freshman season
Also competed in cheerleading, helping the team win the county championship and place fourth in the state
Intends to major in biology

Maggie Kelly | Defense | 5-3 | Fayetteville-Manlius, N.Y. (Fayetteville-Manlius/Ethix Club Lacrosse)

Will play her third season of varsity lacrosse for the Hornets in the spring of 2017
Named a Scholar Athlete her sophomore and junior seasons
Helped lead Fayetteville-Manlius to a 12-6 record as a junior
Intends to major in biology with emphasis in forensic science

Madison Lear | Attack/Midfield | 5-3 | Burke, Va. (Lake Braddock Secondary School/Cardinal)

Has played on the varsity team all four years of her prep career at Robert E. Lee and Lake Braddock
Was the leading scorer on the team her junior season, tallying 64 goals
Also competes in cheerleading, swimming and diving and track and field
Intends to major in nursing

Nicole LeGar | Attack | 5-6 | Eldersburg, Md. (Garrison Forest School/M&D)

Has played on the varsity team all four years of her prep career
The Grizzlies have posted a 30-5-10 overall record the last three seasons
Also competes in field hockey
Sister, Julie, is entering her junior season playing for the University of Maryland's lacrosse team

Mika Mapp | Midfield/Defense | 5-4 | Greensboro, N.C. (Ragsdale High School/Carolina Fever)

Joined the varsity squad at Ragsdale her junior season
Led the Tigers to a 16-1 record and a conference championship
Earned league defensive MVP honors

Helped lead the Mustangs to the Maryland 2A-3A state title as well as the regional and county championships her freshman season
Marriotts Ridge won the county and regional championships when she was a sophomore while taking the county title her junior campaign
Intends to major in physical therapy with a minor in biology

Christina White | Goalkeeper | 5-3 | Mount Airy, Md. (South Carroll High School)

Starting goalkeeper for the varsity team since her freshman season
Has made 339 saves in 40 games played
Named honorable mention all-state and second team all-county as a junior as well as a second team all-county her sophomore season
Intends to major in biology with an emphasis in sports and exercise science
