
Nearly Two Dozen Student-Athletes Eligible For Fall Commencement

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Almost two dozen current and former East Carolina University student-athletes are eligible to participate in Fall Commencement exercises inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 16.

Seven student-athletes on the football team as well as seven members of swimming and diving teams earned their bachelor's degrees in multiple fields. Three degrees were awarded in communication as well as criminal justice. Multiple degrees were also earned in the area of social work, nursing, finance as well as recreation and park management.

U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Christina M. Alvarado will serve as the ceremony's keynote speaker.

Rear Adm. Alvarado is a registered nurse and graduate of the Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing, Alexandria, Va., Columbia University School of Nursing, New York, N.Y., and holds a Master of Health Care Administration from the University of North Carolina, School of Public Health. She was the first nurse to command Naval Reserve (NR) Expeditionary Medical Facility (EMF) Dallas One, a commissioned unit whose mission is expeditionary medicine. She led the transformation of the unit and stood up the first Reserve EMF in 2011.
