Pirates Finish 13th At Season Opening Tournament

DURHAM, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team finished the Rod Myers Invitational in 13th in front of only Loyola (Md.) on Sunday, with an overall score of 33-over-par 897. The Pirates posted a final round score of 6-over 294 today, led by sophomore Tim Conover who carded a 3-under-par 69.
Conover finished the tournament tied for 10th-place at 1-under 215 for his second career top 10 finish. He pared 39 of the 54 holes, second-most among the 82-player field, with eight birdies. On Sunday, Conover shot par on the front nine and carded a 3-under on the back nine with three birdies and six pars.
Redshirt junior Jackson Spires posted his best round of the tournament Sunday with a 1-over 73 to finish at 8-over 224. Freshman Patrick Stephenson and Blake Taylor each carded a 4-over 76 in round three finishing at 229 and 232, respectively. Senior Jackson Sides recorded his third consecutive round of 78 for a three round total of 234.
Freshman Logan Shuping, playing as an individual, registered his best round of the event with a 1-over 73 and finished with 54-hole total of 228.
Wake Forest won the team title at 23-under 841, finishing 11 strokes in front of second-place Liberty. Kieran Vincent of Liberty claimed medalist honors at 15-under 201 with three rounds of 5-under 67.
The Pirates will return to the links in Richmond, Sept. 19-20, for the Janney Invitational at the Country Club of Virginia.Â
