Pirates Open Season With Strong Showing At ECU Fall Shootout

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team completed the first tournament of its 2016-17 campaign by winning better than 75 percent of its singles matches in the ECU Fall Shootout at the River Birch Tennis Complex.

Overall, the Pirates combined for a 21-6 (.778) record in singles action against opponents from UNC Greensboro, James Madison, Richmond, College of Charleston and Elon. All nine of ECU's players won multiple matches, while no Pirate lost more than once.

Building on a successful debut season where he posted a 17-8 overall mark and 10-4 record in dual matches last spring, redshirt junior Freddie McGeehan and sophomore Ronny Georgi posted perfect 3-0 ledgers, respectively, while Georgi did so with consecutive straight-set victories across the three days of competition. Freshman Javier Renones also won all three of singles matches, two of which came in three sets.

Redshirt senior Fredric Lehfeldt, junior Kasey Countee, sophomores Vlad Anghel, James Ling and Will Bissett and redshirt freshman Austin Allen all posted 2-1 marks, respectively.

East Carolina's four doubles teams each posted on victory and combined for a 4-5 overall record in Friday's and Saturday's action.

The Pirates will continue its fall season at the ITA Carolinas Regional, which begins Oct. 14 in Cary, N.C.
