Jeffers Garners American Conference Rookie-of-the-Week Honors

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina redshirt freshman goalkeeper Caroline Jeffers was named American Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Jeffers made four saves, several in crucial situations, as the Pirates' last line of defense in Sunday's 1-0 non-conference home victory over UNC Greensboro. The Windermere, Fla., native earned her fourth win of the season, while the shutout was her second of the year. Her first scoreless outing came in the 4-0 rout at Western Carolina on Aug. 28.

Jeffers, whose 30 saves rank fourth among American Conference goalkeepers, becomes the third player to earn rookie-of-the-week honors since ECU joined the league, joining Brittany Fary (Sept. 8, 2014) and Courtney Cash (Sept. 14, 2015).

East Carolina (4-5) returns to action Thursday, Sept. 22 for its final non-conference match of the season when it makes the short trip to Wilmington, N.C., to take on UNC Wilmington. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
