ECU Women's Hoops Unveils Full 2016-17 Schedule

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball program released its full schedule for the 2016-17 season in conjunction with an announcement by the American Athletic Conference on Friday.
Guided by the leadership of Head Coach Heather Macy, who enters her seventh season at the helm of the program, 13 of the Pirates' 29 regular-season games will come against teams that earned NCAA Tournament or WNIT bids last year. The four NCAA selections include four-time reigning national champion Connecticut, USF, Auburn and West Virginia, while the WNIT invitees comprise Temple, Tulane, Memphis, Southern, Ball State and Charlotte.
"We have seven non-conference games at home, so playing as many games as possible in front of Pirate Nation is always exciting for us and our fans," Macy said. "We expect a challenge from every team we play this season and our non-conference schedule will serve as great preparation for the competitive American Conference schedule we face each year."
East Carolina tips off the campaign with four-straight home games, the first coming on Friday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m., when it hosts Macy's alma mater, Greensboro College. The event will mark the first time in three years the Pirates will begin the season inside Minges Coliseum and will be the second part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.
ECU will host Detroit on Sunday, Nov. 13, before welcoming UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m., for its annual Education Day before closing out the homestand with another doubleheader with the men's team on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3:30 p.m., against Auburn.
The Pirates will travel to Georgia for three games during Thanksgiving break, Nov. 22-24, to compete in the Savannah Invitational against Marist, West Virginia and Ball State.
ECU closes out its non-league schedule with home games against Presbyterian (Nov. 28), Maryland -Eastern Shore (Dec. 4) and Southern (Dec. 20), as well as road tilts at Charlotte (Dec. 1), Richmond (Dec. 17) and William & Mary (Dec. 28).
Reduced from 18 to 16 games, East Carolina's American Conference journey starts at home for the first time since joining the league against Tulane at 2:30 p.m., as part of a New Year's Eve doubleheader with the men's program. ECU's next contest will be its first road test at UConn on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
The Pirates' will host SMU (Jan. 7), UCF (Jan. 18) and UConn (Jan. 24) at home to start the 2017 slate, while traveling to Temple (Jan. 11), USF (Jan. 14), Cincinnati (Jan. 21) and Tulsa (Jan. 31) during the first month of the new year.Â
February will commence with three-consecutive home games against Houston (Feb. 4), USF (Feb. 8) and Temple (Feb. 11), before a pair of road contests at Memphis (Feb. 15) and UCF (Feb. 18). ECU's home finale will come against Cincinnati (Feb. 22), while the regular season concludes at Houston (Feb. 25).
