ECU Student-Athletes Post Cumulative 3.0 GPA

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 following the conclusion of the 2016 fall semester with 10 teams posting a semester GPA average of 3.00 or above during the term.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for the progress they have made in the classroom," ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said. "We are certainly headed in the right direction academically and the credit goes to our Student Development staff, our coaches, and of course the student-athletes who manage to balance to rigorous demands of being a Division I student-athlete."

Twenty-three student-athletes earned a place on the Chancellor's List during the semester with a 4.00 GPA with more than 55 percent of all student-athletes producing a 3.00 GPA. The women's golf team had 100 percent of its roster make the Honor Roll for the sixth consecutive semester, while the baseball squad had a program-best 86 percent of its student-athletes post a GPA of 3.00 or higher.

A trio of teams achieved an academic program-best cumulative GPA at the end of the semester. Women's golf currently owns a collective GPA of 3.86, women's tennis stands at 3.54 and baseball possesses a 3.34 cumulative average.

The Pirate women's cross country team placed five student-athletes on the Chancellor's List, baseball had four, softball and women's swimming & diving had three apiece, women's golf and women's soccer each had two, while men's cross country, men's tennis, women's basketball and women's tennis each had one member of its squad post a 4.00 GPA.

In all, 203 student-athletes earned at least a 3.00 GPA during the fall semester.

Achieving an annual overall average GPA of 3.00 for all student-athletes was one of the priorities put forth in the ECU Athletics Department's Undaunted Strategic Plan in 2013.
