GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina Head Women's Tennis Coach Tom Morris announced Wednesday that Alisa Diercksen has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend ECU and play tennis with the Pirates beginning in the fall of 2017.
Â
"We are elated to announce Alisa's commitment to join our team next fall," Morris, who's in his 19th year at the helm of the Pirates' program, said. "She has competed at the highest level in Germany's open division and has earned wins in top-50 matches."
Â
A highly-recruited player out of Seevetal, Germany, Diercksen ranks 23rd nationally in Germany's 18 and under division. She has been ranked as high as 126th in the open division and has been competing since the age of five.
Â
"Alisa is a very personable young lady," Morris said. "She has all the tools to be an outstanding player. With her quick feet, solid serve and groundstrokes, and great volleys, she moves well to take the ball early and does a great job of controlling the point."
Â
She competed a handful of times last month and lost a very close quarterfinal match to Germany's No. 35 player in the open division in the first of four tournaments before going on to win the next three.
Â
In 2016, Diercksen was a finalist in the Outdoor State Championship for singles, earned the doubles crown and was a finalist on the Nike Junior Tour.
Â
Diercksen excels in the classroom as well with a 3.86 grade point average and plans to major in business.
