
Coiro And Ward Hired To East Carolina Athletics External Staff

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Olivia Coiro and Eric Ward have joined the athletics staff at East Carolina University, according to an announcement Friday.

Coiro has been named an Assistant Director of Athletics Communications after serving in the same capacity at UNC Greensboro since the fall of 2015. She was the primary publicist for the Spartan women's basketball, softball, women's soccer, track and field and cross country programs, promoting student-athletes, coaches and staff through the athletic department's official website as well as its social media platforms. Coiro also successfully directed the promotion of CoSIDA Academic All-America selections Lucy Mason (women's basketball) and Nicole Thomas (softball).

Coiro began her full-time career as an assistant director of athletics communications at Lynn University where she worked directly with the men's and women's basketball teams as well as overseeing communications efforts for men's lacrosse, women's volleyball, softball, men's and women's tennis and women's cross country. She was also the postseason contact for the women's golf team during its run to back to back NCAA Division II national championships. Additionally, under Coiro's watch, the men's basketball team reached the "Sweet Sixteen" of the NCAA Division II tournament.

Coiro earned a bachelor of science in sports management from Lasell College in 2012.

Ward, who has been tabbed Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement, arrives in Greenville after serving as an assistant director and associate director of promotions and fan engagement at Texas Tech University since 2013. He was charged with directing marketing efforts for the Red Raider football, men's basketball, baseball and women's soccer programs. Ward served as gameday producer, directed ticketing campaigns and worked as social media manager.

Thanks to Ward's efforts, Jones AT&T Stadium was ranked the eighth-best college football gameday experience by Stadium Journey. He also oversaw men's basketball ticket sales that reached its highest mark in a decade in 2016. Additionally, in just three seasons, Ward played an integral role in doubling attendance at Red Raider baseball games.

Starting in the fall of 2015, Ward was selected the Big 12 Conference representative for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators. He served as the lead liaison between NACMA and the 10 Big 12 institutions as well as its 66 affiliated members. Ward promoted attendance for the 2016 NACDA convention and achieved 100 percent of all membership and attendance goals.

Ward began his career as a marketing intern at his alma mater, the University of South Carolina, before earning promotion to the post of marketing assistant. His duties included directing or assisting in all marketing efforts for football, men's basketball, baseball, men's and women's soccer and equestrian as well as overseeing the recruitment, training and management of the marketing intern program.

Ward earned a bachelor of science in sport and entertainment management from South Carolina in 2012.
