GREENVILLE, N.C. – For the third-straight time, the East Carolina track and field program will head to the state of Virginia for a competition as the Pirates participate in the Liberty Invitational Friday and Saturday at the newly constructed Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Â
"This is our last tune up before our indoor conference championships," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "With the momentum that we have created over the last couple weeks, there is no reason to believe that we aren't going to go in and have a great meet."
Last time out, ECU took part in the Doc Hale Elite Meet and turned in some impressive performances. Sophomore Stefano Migliorati broke the 800-meter school record by posting a time of 1:49.81 to win the event. That time is also the fastest in the American Athletic Conference this season and 33rd nationally to date.
Â
The Pirates boast two more individuals who rank in the top 50 in the country in the their respective events. Senior Galissia Cause checks in at 43rd in the shot put with a mark of 15.46 meters while junior Mohogany Baker stands 46th in the weight throw with a toss of 19.32 meters.
Â
"I have stressed to both of our teams, that's it's very important to stay focused and come out of this meet sharp," Kraft added. "We are going to be competing against some really good teams this weekend once again. We are also very excited to see this facility. From my understanding, this is one of the nicest facilities in the country. The number one goal is to come out of this meet healthy."
Â
Following the Liberty Invitational, East Carolina will travel to Alabama Feb. 24-25 for the AAC Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
