CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The East Carolina track and field program produced a strong start to its outdoor campaign this weekend, winning 15 events at the Carolina Relays at Fetzer Field on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
Â
A trio of athletes captured two events each. Senior Jasmine Dawson won the 100m and 200m races with respective times of 11.95 and 24.45 while classmate Lauren Lubarski topped the field in the high jump (1.63m) and javelin (42.13m). On the men's side, senior Adam Manns was first in the shot put (17.59m) and discus (51.57m).
Â
"We were really pleased as a coaching staff with these opening season weekend marks," head coach Curt Kraft said. "Both teams were very excited to get outdoors and compete in the first outdoor meet of the season. Numerous athletes had their lifetime bests in some of their events. I was very pleased with how the athletes competed in their events even though the weather conditions were not ideal. I have always preached to our teams that they have to be ready to compete physically and mentally, regardless of the weather conditions. Now we have to turn our attention to the Raleigh relays."
Â
In the early stages of the season, senior Cheyenne Hutchinson leads the American Athletic Conference in the 100-meter hurdles as she picked up the event victory with a time of 13.90. Sophomore Courtney Miles also holds the best mark in the league in the long jump at 5.89 meters.
