East Carolina Heads To NC State For Raleigh Relays

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a successful opening weekend of its outdoor season, the East Carolina track and field program will make another short trip over to the campus of NC State for the Raleigh Relays March 24-25. The prestigious meet has accepted upwards of 2,217 entries from the NCAA, professional, club and high school ranks.

"The Raleigh Relays is a meet we look forward to each and every year," head coach Curt Kraft said. "The great thing about this meet is that it provides great competition for all of our athletes. The teams that usually attend this meet are teams that come from all over the southeast, as well as the northeast, that come to this meet each and every year. One of the things that we like to preach as a coaching staff is that athletes are consistent with their marks. We hope that the momentum we created last week in Chapel Hill will carry over into this weekend."

The Pirates won 15 events at the Carolina Relays last weekend, including multiple victories by seniors Jasmine Dawson (100m, 200m), Adam Manns (shot put, discus) and Lauren Lubarski (high jump, javelin).

Currently, sophomore Courtney Miles owns the top long jump mark in the American Athletic Conference at 5.89 meters while classmate Olivia Walker is second at 5.83 meters. Manns ranks second in the conference in both the shot put (17.59m) and discus (51.57m).

In terms of the national performance list, Manns is 26th in the shot put and 34th in the discus. Miles and Walker also sit a respective 20th and 27th in the long jump.

Following this weekend's meet, ECU will split up the squad for both the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., as well as the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C. Both events will take place over two days from March 31 to April 1.
