
Track And Field Builds Momentum With Top Finishes At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – In its annual trip to the Raleigh Relays, the East Carolina track and field program put forth another solid effort and took home a number of top finishes. The meet featured over 100 schools and athletes from the collegiate, club and professional ranks.

"I felt like we had another very good weekend of track and field," head coach Curt Kraft said. "We have had two pretty good weekends of weather, which really helps the performances. I see a lot of excitement and confidence in both the men's and women's teams. I feel like there is very good team cohesiveness and very good leadership with both teams. We need to keep this momentum going."

On the women's side, senior Cheyenne Hutchinson was the top collegiate finisher and second over in the 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 13.70 that is currently the second-fastest in the American Athletic Conference. Senior Adell Remsberg posted a mark of 3.75 meters in the pole vault to take second place while junior Brittany Bryant captured third in the high jump at 1.60 meters. Senior Jasmine Dawson grabbed fifth place in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 11.92.

The men's relay team of Vincent Ragland, Hakeem Horton, Jordan Martin and Tamarack Bolden took top honors in the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:23.26 while also placing third in the 4x100 by completing the race in 40.38. ÂÂ

Horton made his mark in the field as well, easily winning the long jump with a mark of 7.37 that currently stands as the best in the AAC and 20th nationally. Sophomore Stefano Migliorati also won the 800m, clocking in at 1:49.91 to take over first place in the American Conference and 20th nationally. In the 110m hurdles, junior D'Ante Yarborough turned in an AAC-best time of 14.39 that is also currently the 33rd fastest in Division I.

ECU will split up next weekend, participating in the Pepsi Florida Relays and the High Point VertKlasse Meeting March 31-April 1.

"We are excited about going into the meet this weekend at both the Florida Relays and High Point," Kraft added. "If the athletes stay focused and continue to work hard, it could be a very good outdoor season. I am very proud of both teams in terms of where they are at this point." Â
