Pirates End Seven Match Road Stretch with 6-1 Loss to No. 31 Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, N.C. – East Carolina wrapped up a seven-match road stretch with a 6-1 loss to No. 31 Wake Forest at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. Nastja Rettich claimed the Pirates' only point in the match winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

The Demon Deacons claimed the doubles point with at 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles and a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Maria Gomez and Rettich were the only doubles team not to finish play on court two.

Courtney Meredith put Wake Forest ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Maria Gomez at the bottom of the singles lineup and Emma Davis defeated Lisa Hofbauer 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to put the 31st-ranked team in the country within one point of clinching the win. Rettich's match on court four was the fourth singles match to finish making the overall score 3-1 but No. 62 Kimmy Guerin defeated No. 124 Celia Ruiz 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the victory for WFU.

East Carolina returns home 6-8 overall and hosts Charlotte at 1 p.m. Thursday. Â
