April 17, 2017 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Madison Clark has signed a grant in aid agreement to attend East Carolina University and compete for the Pirate volleyball program beginning in the fall of 2017, according to an announcement Monday by head coach Julie Torbett.
Â
Clark, a 6-2 setter and outside hitter, spent her first two collegiate seasons with the University at Buffalo.
Â
"We are really happy to have Madison join the team this fall," Torbett said. "The setter position is critical for the success of any team and to have a player come in with experience in multiple roles will certainly help complete the 2017 roster. I see Madison competing for immediate playing time as the starting setter, but she can also be utilized as a hitter if needed. Her size is an added bonus as well as her likable personality."
Â
Clark racked up 79 kills and 140 digs for the Bulls as a sophomore, tallying a season-high 11 kills and 10 digs in a five-set victory over Akron. She reached double figures in digs in five matches, including a season-best 21 at Toledo.
Â
In her freshman campaign, Clark was thrust into the starting setter role with 12 matches to play and stepped up admirably as she averaged 9.62 assists and 1.86 digs per set. Clark produced five double-doubles - one of which was a 53-assists, 10-dig performance against defending Mid-American Conference champion Northern Illinois. She also recorded 50 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Bowling Green.
Â
Clark played her first two seasons of prep volleyball at Starpoint High School, tallying 114 kills, 150 assists and 63 aces as a freshman. She was named MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week and tabbed to the ECIC Second Team that year. Her sophomore campaign, Clark earned team MVP accolades as well as ECIC Second Team and All Western New York honorable mention honors. She moved over to Williamsville South High School her junior and senior years and had a stellar senior season, leading the Billie Goats to an 18-5 record as well as the Section VI Class B state title. Clark was named the state tournament MVP and garnered first team all-state, First-Team All-ECIC and First-Team All-Western New York accolades as a result.
Â
Clark played her club volleyball for the Niagara Frontier Club and garnered recruiting interest from North Carolina, Virginia, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, North Florida and UMBC.
