Pepsi Florida Relays Complete Results
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track and field program continued a successful outdoor campaign this weekend, splitting time between the High Point VertKlasse Meeting and the Pepsi Florida Relays.
Â
"Both teams continued making good progress," head coach curt Kraft said. "We set school records and had many lifetime bests once again. Both teams are continuing to compete with a lot of confidence and are having a lot of fun at the same time."
Â
In Florida, sophomore Grace Sullivan set a new school standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 10:31.91 to top her previous program best by nearly five seconds. She moved into second place on the American Athletic Conference performance list and 35th nationally. Junior Galissia Cause took over the league lead in the shot put, notching a heave of 15.90 meters which is the current 25th-best mark in the country as well as the new school record. Junior D'Ante Yarborough also improved to second place in the league in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.21.
Â
In the discus, senior Adam Manns recorded a toss of 55.04 to take second in both the event and on the AAC performance list as well as 28th nationally. Sophomore Courtney Warner also moved up in the conference rankings in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 11.44 to place 11th in the race and move into second in the league. Freshman Alyssa Sandy ran the current second-fastest time in the conference in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.67.
Â
Over in High Point, sophomores Olivia Walker and Brittany Bryant took third and fourth in the long jump with respective marks of 5.64 and 5.58 meters while freshman Nuria Tillo-Prats placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:14.98. Sophomore Andrew Ciaccia also snagged second place in the 5000-meter run, putting up a time of 15:16.69.
Â
The Pirates will now get ready to compete at home next weekend, hosting the 2017 Bill Carson Invitational at the Minges Family Field at Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility. East Carolina is the defending men's and women's champion of the event, winning both team titles a season ago.
Â
"We have to continue to stay healthy and have great practices," Kraft added. "One of the biggest things I'm pleased with is the mindset of both teams. Our athletes are competing very well regardless of the competition and the weather conditions. I have preached to them many times that we only control what we can control."
