GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina will open up play at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships Sunday, April 23, at Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Â
The three-day event will continue through Tuesday, April 25 with 18 holes of competition each day beginning at 8 a.m. on the par-71, 7,125-yard Copperhead Course. The Pirates are one of nine teams vying for the title along with UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, Memphis, USF, SMU and Temple.
Â
USF is the two-time defending tournament champion, having won last year's event by 20 strokes over second-place Memphis. East Carolina claimed fourth-place a year ago after finishing seventh in its tournament debut in 2015.
Â
The Pirates enter the tournament as the sixth-highest ranked team in The American and are led by junior Tim Conover, who leads the conference with two victories this season. He owns a 71.90 strokes per round average this year with four top-5 finishes in 11 events.
Â
Freshman Blake Taylor holds the second lowest scoring average on the team at 73.74 over 31 rounds. Redshirt junior Jackson Spires and freshman Patrick Stephenson each hold scoring averages of 3-over-par with one top-10 finish apiece.
Â
