800-Meter School Record Falls As Track And Field Wraps Up Duke Invite

DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Stefano Migliorati broke his own school record in the 800-meter run to highlight the East Carolina track and field program's participation in the Duke Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium.

Migliorati crossed the finish line in a time of 1:48.68 to finish third in the event and maintain his top standing on the American Athletic Conference performance list.

In all, the Pirates produced 17 top-three finishes and won three event titles.

"I was really pleased with both teams performances at our last meet before going into the conference championships," head coach Curt Kraft said. "Both teams performed with great attitudes and with a lot of enthusiasm. We had a lot of great highlights on both sides. Probably one of the biggest things that sticks out in the coaching staff's minds is the school record that Stefano Migliorati set in the 800. Now we just have to take this momentum and carry this into the conference championships in 2 1/2 weeks. We have to remain healthy and have a great practice is over the next two weeks."

Senior Cheyenne Hutchinson captured first place in the long jump with a mark of 6.12 meters while classmate Lauren Lubarski took top honors in the javelin with a heave of 48.57 meters. Hutchinson also wound up second in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 13.47.

The 4x100 relay team of Atlanta Woodall, Courtney Warner, Cedrina Singletary and Jasmine Dawson finished first with a time of 44.98 before the 4x400 relay squad of D'Nia Freeman, Dawson, Warner and Singletary checked in second

Dawson and Warner placed second and third in the 100-meter dash with respective times of 11.66 and 11.67 while Warner was second and Dawson third in the 200-meter dash at 23.91 and 23.93. Also on the track, sophomore Grace Sullivan earned a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:58.12.

Freshman Savannah Wood put up a big personal record in the pole vault, clearing 3.60 meters to capture second place. In the discus, junior Galissia Cause took second with a throw of 49.55 meters.

Senior Adam Manns pulled a trifecta of top-three finishes, garnering second place in the discus (54.44m) and hammer throw (54.91m) while taking third in the shot put at 17.47 meters. Sophomore Andrew Ciaccia ran a 32:18.30 in the 10,000-meter run to end up second.

The ECU men and women will now prepare for the AAC Outdoor Championships, scheduled for May 12-14 at the Carl Lewis International Complex in Houston, Texas.
