ECU Falls To Ninth At The American Championships

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – After day two of the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships, East Carolina sits in ninth-place after shooting a 303 on the par-71, 7,125-yard Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort Monday.
USF fired a 1-under-par 283 to maintain its position atop the team standings with a 36-hole score of 2-over par 570 (287-283). Cincinnati carded a 4-over-par Monday to move into second-place with a total score of 11-over-par 579 (291-288). UCF (289-294=583) is in third-place followed by Houston (288-297=595) and UConn (295-292=587) to round out the top-5. Â
Memphis (294-300=594) holds a one stroke lead over SMU (300-295) for sixth with Temple (298-300=598) sitting in eighth-place, four strokes in front of ECU (299-303=602).
The individual lead belongs to USF's Jimmy Jones, who fired a 3-under-par 68 in round two and is 3-under (71-68=139) for the championship as well. Cincinnati's Austin Squires also shot a 68 Monday and moved up five places in the standings into second-place at 2-under-par (72-68=140). A trio of players are tied for third at 1-under-par.
Blake Taylor leads the Pirates at 8-over-par 150 (73-77) and is tied for 24th following a 6-over-par 77 in round two. Tim Conover stands one stroke behind his teammate, tied for 29th at 9-over-par 151 (74-77). Jackson Spires carded ECU's lowest round of the day with 1-over-par 74 to move up to 33rd (78-74=152). Patrick Stephenson shot 79 Tuesday to fall to 35th (74-79=153), while Clay Brown (80-75=155) is tied for 41st.
The Pirates return to action tomorrow morning in the final round of the tournament.
