Pirates Finish Eighth At The American Championships

PALM HARBOR, Fla. --- East Carolina fired a final round score of 12-over-par 296 to conclude its season with an eighth-place at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships at Innisbrook Golf Resort Tuesday.
The Pirates followed an opening round 299 with rounds of 303 and 296 to complete the tournament with a three-day total of 898. USF won the team title for the third consecutive season, firing a 5-over 857 (287-283-287) to win by 15 strokes over co-runner-up Cincinnati (291-288-293) and Houston (288-297-287), which each finished at 20-over-par 872.
Individually for the Pirates, junior Tim Conover posted his best round of the tournament Tuesday with a 2-over-par 73 to finish with a 54-hole score of 11-over-par 224 (74-77-73) tied for 23rd. Freshman Patrick Stephenson also shot 73 in round three to finish tied for 30th at 13-over-par 226 (74-79-73). Redshirt junior Jackson Spires finished 33rd at 14-over-par 227 (78-74-75) with freshman Blake Taylor tied for 34th at 15-over-par 228 (73-77-78). Junior Clay Brown came in 37th at 17-over-par 230 (80-75-75).
Houston produced the individual champion as Michael Perras defeated USF's Cristian DiMarco in one-hole playoff after the pair tied atop the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 212.
