
Manns And Ruiz Named March Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior Adam Manns of the track and field program and sophomore Celia Ruiz have been selected the male and female Student-Athletes of the Month following an outstanding March of competition. The pair has also combined to complete over 100 hours of community service so far this academic year.

Manns captured both the shot put and discus titles at the Carolina Relays with respective marks of 17.59 and 51.57 meters to open the outdoor campaign. He is currently ranked 18th nationally in the shot put and 28th in the discus.

The men's and women's track and field teams will compete at home this weekend hosting the 2017 Bill Carson Invitational at the Minges Family Field at Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility.

Ruiz became the first player in program history to achieve a national ranking in March as she is currently slotted 124th in singles play by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Ruiz is also the only American Athletic Conference player with a national ranking in singles. She was named the AAC Player of the Week March 14 after winning at No. 1 singles versus a nationally-ranked North Carolina team. Â

The women's tennis squad returns to action Thursday when it hosts Hampton at 2 p.m.
