Conover Shoots 3-Over On Day One Of NCAA Regional Championship

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – East Carolina junior Tim Conover carded an opening round 3-over-par 75 during first round action in the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf College Grove Regional and is currently tied for 40th place. The three-day event is being held at the par-72, 7,383-yard Grove Club.
Conover opened play with a 4-over-par 40 on the front nine with five bogeys and one birdie. He then slashed five strokes off his score by shooting 1-under-par on the back nine, sinking three birdie putts, while registering two bogeys.
Second-ranked Vanderbilt holds a six stroke lead over American Athletic Conference member UCF in the team standings. The Commodores fired a 9-under-par 279 to lead the field followed by the Knights at 3-under-par with Troy (-2), Kennesaw State (-1) and No. 14 Clemson (E) rounding out the top-5.
Vanderbilt's Patrick Martin and Clemson's Bryson Nimmer are tied for the overall individual lead at 6-under-par 66 with nine additional players within six strokes of the lead.
Conover joins Harold Varner as the only player in program history to participate in three NCAA Regional Championships and is one of only four Pirates along with Varner ('10), Eric Brady ('14) and Mike Teague (1993) to earn individual invitations to the NCAA championships.
Second round action begins Tuesday, May 16, at 8 a.m. (ET) with Conover teeing off from the 10th hole at 10:01 a.m.
