May 20, 2017 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field, Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track and field program will send 13 athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary competition scheduled for May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky.
Â
It is the fourth-straight season the Pirates have had double-digit qualifiers into the regional field.
Â
"We are very excited about the number of people and events that we qualified for the regional championships," head coach Curt Kraft said. "Any time you have people move on to regionals, it shows the quality of athletes you have on your squads. The goal shouldn't be just to make it to the regional championships but the goal should be to move onto the finals in Oregon in two weeks. Both teams are still very excited from doing so well at the conference championships. Hopefully we will keep that excitement and momentum going into Lexington."
Â
Sophomore Stefano Migliorati and junior Mohogany Baker, who won league titles in the 800m and discus at the recently completed American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, headline the Pirate contingent as they currently rank 23rd and 36th in the east region in their respective events.
Â
ECU will have a handful of athletes compete in multiple events in sophomore Hakeem Horton (200m/long jump), senior Adam Manns (shot put/discus), junior Galissia Cause (shot put/discus), senior Cheyenne Hutchinson (long jump/100-meter hurdles), senior Lauren Lubarski (high jump/javelin) and sophomore Courtney Warner (100m/4x100 relay).
