
Volleyball Program Continues To Build During Spring Campaign

GREENVILLE, N.C. – During its recently completed spring season, the East Carolina volleyball team gained game experience against a variety of regional competition. Out of its 11 two-set exhibition matches, the Pirates emerged victorious four times while also producing four ties and three losses.

The Purple and Gold began the spring at a tournament hosted by Duke where East Carolina defeated Wake Forest (25-12, 25-17) and Liberty (25-18, 25-21) and fell to NC State (21-25, 13-25) as well as the host Blue Devils (14-25, 18-25).

The Pirates then hosted a tournament of their own, welcoming Elon, Chowan and the ECU Club Team to Minges Coliseum. ECU downed Chowan (25-15, 25-13) and the ECU Club Team (25-20, 25-17) and split with Elon (25-17, 24-26).

Wrapping up the competition slate, East Carolina traveled to NC State and dropped a matchup with Campbell (21-25, 14-25) while splitting with Wake Forest (22-25, 25-23), South Carolina (25-12, 15-25) and defending Big South Conference champion High Point (14-25, 25-18).

ECU produced its first non-losing season since 2006, compiling a 15-15 record in 2016. The Pirates started the season 10-0, the longest winning streak in program history, and won every non-conference match for the first time. Additionally, head coach Julie Torbett is just 17 victories away from becoming the winningest head coach in the program annals.
