
Nearly Seven Dozen Student-Athletes Set To Graduate

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Nearly seven dozen student-athletes are eligible to participate in East Carolina University's 2017 spring graduation activities over the weekend. The commencement ceremony will begin with a processional at 9 a.m. Friday, May 5, in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium with University of North Carolina system president Margaret Spellings delivering the commencement address.
Spellings is a graduate of the University of Houston and received an honorary doctorate and Distinguished Alumna Award from the university in 2006. From 2005 to 2009, Spellings served as U.S. Secretary of Education, the nation's senior policy official on all aspects of education-primary, secondary, and post-secondary.
More than 5,000 graduates will earn their degrees from East Carolina University.
Seventeen members of the track and field/cross country program are eligible to participate in this weekend's activities as are 13 members of the football team as well as the swimming and diving program. The baseball team has eight student-athletes set to become ECU alumni, while the women's basketball program has six. Soccer and women's tennis will each produce five graduates with men's golf and volleyball supplying three new alumni each, while men's basketball and men's tennis generated two apiece.
