GREENVILLE, N.C. – Former East Carolina shortstop Jack Reinheimer became the 21st Pirate in program history to make his Major League Debut when he stepped into the batters box at Wrigley Field (Chicago, Ill.) on Tuesday, Aug. 2 for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
With his debut, ECU has had seven players appear in a MLB game this season joining Shawn Armstrong (Cleveland Indians), Jharel Cotton (Oakland Athletics), Chris Heston (Seattle Mariners), Jeff Hoffman (Colorado Rockies), Seth Maness (Kansas City Royals) and Mike Wright (Baltimore Orioles).
Four years after he was drafted in the fifth round (pick 147 overall) by the Seattle Mariners in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Reinheimer pinch hit for pitcher Patrick Corbin in the fourth inning facing left-hander John Lester of the Chicago Cubs, where Lester got the best of him recording his ninth strikeout of the night and 2,000th of his career in a Cubs' 16-4 victory.
Batting .283 with four home runs, 70 runs scored and 44 RBI with the Diamondbacks' Triple-A club Reno Aces before his call up, Reinheimer came to Arizona in the Mark Trumbo trade in June of 2015.
In 233 games with the Aces over two seasons, Reinheimer holds the fourth-most hits collected (250) while ranking fifth in at-bats with 874. He has recorded 42 doubles, nine triples, six home runs, 92 RBI, and 31 stolen bases in 2016 and 2017 thus far. In total, he holds a Minor League career batting average of .278 over four full seasons with 592 hits, 94 doubles, 18 triples, 16 home runs and 222 RBI. He was a three-time Mid-Season All-Star, earning selections in 2013 (Northwest League), 2014 (Midwest League) and 2016 (Midwest League).
Reinheimer is the seventh Pirate to make his MLB Debut since 2013 and is the first hitter since Chad Tracy, who made his debut with the Diamondbacks on April 21, 2004, to appear in a Major League game.
