Things To Look For On ECU Football Gameday In 2017
August 31, 2017 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – As ECU turns the page to another football season, the athletics department is excited to announce enhanced amenities to the gameday experience for fans in 2017 at Bagwell Field inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
1. Food Vendors – Aramark Concessions has partnered with Parker's Barbecue, Kona Ice, Smash Waffles and Villa Verde (in addition to existing relationships with Chick-fil-A and Papa John's) to have a wider array of offerings in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium this season. Kona Ice will be located near Gate 3 and Gate 8, Smash Waffles will be by Gate 4 and Gate 8, Villa Verde will be located by Gate 9, while Parker's Barbecue will be offered at multiple concession stands throughout the stadium. Additionally Papa John's is replacing the pizza slice with a personal 8" pan pizza. Chick-fil-A and Papa John's will remain in their same locations.
2. End Zones - As part of the change from East Carolina to ECU, the end zones will look different this year. The West end zone will now read ECU while the end zone closest to the Boneyard will read Pirates.
3. No Quarter – The No Quarter tradition will have a new element this year. As the No Quarter flag is raised in the West end zone, a new 90 feet by 54 feet lightweight nylon flag will be "raised" by the students in the Boneyard.Â
4. Fan Guide – A new digital fan guide that includes everything from where the first aid stations are located to what radio stations carry our games, is available on ECUPirates.com or by clicking here.
5. Purple Smoke – A change in smoke vendors has allowed us to have more Purple Haze than ever! This year not only will the team run through purple smoke like they always have, but fans will see purple smoke in more places on the field than just by the skull.
6. Pirate Walk – In its second year, fans are encouraged to meet the football team two-and-a-half hours prior to kickoff at Gate 5. The Pirates, along with the pep band and cheerleaders, will walk between Minges Coliseum and the Murphy Center to the front of the Ward Sports Medicine Building.
7. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook posts (pictures, tweets and videos) will again be pulled and posted on the football video board during the game by using #ECUGameday. ECU Athletics encourages fans to post appropriate pictures of their tailgating and game experiences, or selfies to their accounts using #ECUGameday, so we can share their experiences with the rest of Pirate Nation.
