Pirates Fall to Temple in First AAC Road Match

Philadelphia, Pa. – The ECU women's soccer team lost its first American Athletic Conference road match of the season, 1-0, to Temple at the Temple Sports Complex Thursday night. The loss marks the first time the Pirates have lost three-straight matches since Oct. 6-12, 2016 when ECU lost a trio of AAC contests to Memphis, Tulsa and SMU.

ECU edged Temple 6-2 in shots but the two battled through a scoreless first half. In the 50th minute Elana Falcone scored her third goal of the season with a shot at the top of the box into the top left corner of the goal giving the Owls the advantage early in the second frame.

The Pirates had a handful of chances including a shot by Chentay Warnes that forced Temple's goalkeeper Morgan Basileo to react quickly making a pivotal save in the 74th minute. Temple countered the attack seconds later when Kerri McGinley went one-on-one with Michelle Newhouse. A diving save by Newhouse kept the Owls lead to one goal.
