William "Bill" Hill was known as one of the Pirates' best wrestlers in the history of the sport. Hill was a member of the East Carolina wrestling team from 1971-74 and never during that time period did he miss a practice or a match. Hill wrestled in the 177-pound weight class and in his second season, he was named East Carolina's Most Valuable Player.
Hill was named the best wrestler in North Carolina during the 1973-74 season, as he finished fifth in the NCAA Championships. He was a four-time Southern Conference Champion, and won seven titles in other tournaments. Hill posted an individual record of 122-15-1 during his career and was the only East Carolina wrestler to earn All-America honors.
