Dr. Ray Martinez

Ray Martinez is the foundation of East Carolina's traditionally successful swimming and diving program as he served as head swim coach from 1954-67.
In 1957 and 1959, Martinez's teams won the NAIA swimming and diving championships and in 1964 the swim team placed second in the NCAA College Division Championships.
He produced 45 All-Americans, coached 15 NAIA's and four NCAA College Division national champions. Martinez also won the Kiputh Award for national leadership in aquatics.
Martinez also coached the Pirates in tennis for the period of 1955 to 1958.
