Kathy Riley, a standout in womens's basketball and softball, left her mark on ECU women's athletics in two years of competition from 1979-1981.
In basketball, Riley was an honorable mention All-America player for the Lady Pirates in 1980-81. In just two seasons, she recorded 1,150 points becoming the first player to reach that milestone in only two years.
A two-time first-team All-NCAIAW selection, Riley was a member of the 1981 ECU women's team that made the NCAA tournament and finsihed ranked 17th in the nation. She was also a finalist in the 1980 Olympic trials.
In softball, Riley gained national prominence as the Brodrick Award Winner (National College Player-of-the-Year) in 1981. A first-team All-America selection in softball in 1981, Riley's success in softball continued following her ECU career as she helped her team capture the gold medal at the 1990 Olympic Sports Festival.
