Mary Denkler was the first ECU women's basketball player to earn All-America honors. She led ECU to a 17-10 record in 1982 and a berth in the initial NCAA women's basketball tournament.
Denkler led the Lady Pirates in scoring and rebounding in 1982 and '83, finishing her career with 1,789 points and 801 rebounds. Denkler averaged 16.1 points per game and scored over 30 points in a game six times during her four-year career.
A two-time ECU Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Year (1982-83), Denkler was named team MVP in 1983 and was ECU's first NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship winner in 1983. She was named an All-American by the Women's Basketball News Service for the 1981-82 season.
