Gold Downs Purple In Intrasquad Scrimmages

Moore led all scorers with a combined 23 points and 12 rebounds in the two games. Erroyl Bing led all rebounders with 15 boards to go along with 18 points. Junior college transfer Derrick Wiley led Purple with 20 points, while freshman Corey Rouse added 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Freshman Belton Rivers was equally impressive for the Gold team, scoring 17 points, including a trio of three-pointers and handed out five assists. Sophomore Moussa Badiane added 12 points and blocked five shots for the Gold team. Junior college transfer Luke MacKay contributed eight points and handed out six assists, while junior Barrett Twitty added three points for the Gold team.
Senior Travis Holcomb-Faye scored 12 points for the Purple team and junior Gabriel Mikulas added seven points, while taking only seven shots. Sophomore Devin Boddie and junior Garth Grindley each added a basket for the Purple team to complete the scoring.
"I was really encouraged by what I saw out here today," said fourth-year head coach Bill Herrion. "Our kids played hard and with great effort. The first week of practice has been as intense and competitive as we've ever had here."
The Pirates, who return four starters off last year's team, will play its first exhibition game of the season against the U.S. Marine Corps on Nov. 7.
"Basketball is starting to catch on here at East Carolina," said Herrion. "You can feel the excitement about the upcoming season throughout the community and on campus. A lot of people are getting excited around here."
