FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Derrick Wiley led five East Carolina double figure scorers with 21 points and the Pirates defeated Campbell 86-61 in men's basketball action on Saturday at the Crown Coliseum.
ECU blew open a close game with a 25-4 run early in the second half and improved to 8-1 on the year. Campbell dropped to 3-4.
Moussa Badiane added 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting, off the bench, while Gabriel Mikulas and Belton Rivers contributed 12 each. Erroyl Bing scored 10 points and pulled down 17 rebounds, one shy of his career high.
Campbell was led by junior Tarick Johnson, a Fayetteville native who scored 21 points in his hometown. Johnson's output marked his third-straight, 20-plus point game. Freshman Corey Parker came off the Campbell bench to add a season-high 12 points. Campbell senior center Jonte' Edwards, who entered the game averaging nearly 13 points per game, was held to four in just 20 minutes of action due to foul trouble.
The Pirates held a commanding 51-22 edge on the boards, including 21 offensive rebounds. ECU shot 50 percent for the game, while Campbell made just 39 percent of its attempts from the field.
Lee Marsh's layup in traffic pulled Campbell within 30-28 with 3:01 remaining in the first half. However, ECU scored nine unanswered points and led 39-30 at the break.
After Brooks Lee hit a three on Campbell's first possession of the second half, East Carolina held the Camels to just one field goal for more than nine minutes during the pivotal 25-4 stretch. ECU led by as many as 29 points late in the game.
