NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Gabriel Mikulas scored 22 points, including two key free throws with 16 seconds to play, and East Carolina used the cushion created by a blistering start to beat Old Dominion 75-67 Saturday night.
The Pirates (5-0) shot 62 percent in the first half and led 45-37 at the break. They maintained at least a 6-point lead until the final minutes, when a 6-0 run pulled the Monarchs (1-4) to within 70-67 with 19 seconds left.
Mikulas then made a pair of free throws and Derrick Wiley was 3-for-4 from the line in the final nine seconds, helping to keep the Pirates unbeaten.
Wiley added 20 points for East Carolina and Travis Holcomb-Faye scored 11.
The Monarchs got 25 points from Rasheed Wright and 14 from Alex Loughton.
