Women's Cross Country Earns Academic Honor
July 08, 2002 | Women's Cross Country
The 2001-02 Pirate team, coached by Len Klepack, compiled a 3.28 cumulative grade point average, which ranked just behind Duke University's 3.29 and was 67th overall. This marks the first time the ECU women's cross country team has received the honor.
In order to qualify for the All-Academic Team status, a team must compile at least a 3.25 GPA. The award is presented by the Women's Intercollegiate Coaches Association.
The Pirates were led in the classroom by senior captain Abrial Hayes and rising seniors Kay Livick and Kelli Litten, all of whom posted perfect 4.0 grade point averages last fall to earn Chancellor's List designation. Hayes and Litten each earned a Conference USA Academic Medal for 2001-02.
In last fall's competition, ECU won its first ECAC title. The Pirates also came away with a fifth place finish at the Conference USA championships.
