Pirate Football Gets Into Midweek Routine
August 22, 2002 | Football
"Today was our first day of one-a-day practice and we did pretty well," Head Coach Steve Logan said. "We worked on third down and medium situations in the open field and then worked on third-and-goal situations and incorporated our punt and field goal units in with those situations. We responded pretty well and had a pretty good practice today."
The Pirates also spent about 30 minutes of the two-hour practice concentrating on scout plays for the upcoming Duke game.
ECU opens its season on Saturday, Aug. 31, against the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. and the game is not scheduled to be televised.
After two intrasquad scrimmages in the preseason, Logan had voiced concerns over the execution of the perimeter of his team's offense. Those problems appear to be on their way to solutions, he said today.
"It looked better today," he said. "Paul [quarterback Troth] threw the ball better, we caught the ball better, and we were getting in and out of routes a little bit better."
The Pirates will continue their regular daily practice sessions with just one day off--next Monday--until the season opener. Included in those drills is a situational scrimmage, which will be held Saturday at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The scrimmage will be closed to the public.
