ECU Drops Match Against Blue Devils

Duke outplayed the Pirates in each of the three games, winning by scored of 30-20, 30-19, and 30-18. Tassy Rufai led the Duke in kills with 10, and Stephanie Istvan had 44 assists for the Blue Devils. Jill Sonne had four service aces on the night, helping the Blue Devils to their eighth straight win this season.
Robyn Drewes had another impressive showing for the Pirates, with eight kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Jessica Vick led ECU in assists with 16. Drewes, Vick, and Denise Hartnett each had one service ace in the match. As a team, the Pirates finished the match with 26 kills and a .135 hitting percentage.
"Duke is a really good team that has been receiving votes in the top 25," said ECU head coach Colleen Munson. "We played well against them, and really aggressive, especially in the first game. We had three players who were sick this week, and our energy level wasn't what it normally is. We will regroup and hopefully pull out a win this weekend." The Pirates will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. this weekend, September 13-14 to participate in the Toyota Lady Vol Classic.
