Pirate Volleyball Trounces Campbell

The Camels played well in the first game, outhitting the Pirates .417 - .370. Senior Kara Lewis and junior Melissa Ziegenfuss each hit over .400 to lead the Camels to the first game win.
In game two, ECU jumped out to a quick 14-5 lead. The Camels would make several runs, but could never bring the game closer than a seven point difference.
Both teams scratched for points in games three and four, seeing the Camels fall short of their third win by just five total points. Campbell outhit East Carolina in both games (.220 - .195 and .075 - .074), but the Pirates used a 10-2 run at the end of the third game and held off a Campbell comeback in the fourth game, scoring the final three points of the match after calling a time-out with the score knotted at 27 each.
"I was extrememly happy with our performance this evening," said ECU head coach Colleen Munson. "I think the week off really helped us regain our focus and we obviously came out and played much better than we have in recent matches."
Lewis led all players in kills with 18 on a .243 hitting percentage. Senior Crystal Brim recorded a double-double on the night with 10 kills and 18 defensive digs. Sophomore Stephanie Lejbjuk set a career-high with 12 kills, while freshman Alissa Brackeen directed the offensive attack with 43 assists.
For East Carolina, four players recorded double-digit kills, including Sarah Vick (12), Shannon Paton (11), Pam Ferris (13), and Alexis Jones (11). Erica Wilson and Jessica Vick split time at the setter position, recording 25 and 17 assists, respectively. Johanna Bertini was solid in the backcourt as the Pirates libero and chipped in 15 digs.
The Pirates will travel to UNC Greensboro this Friday night, Septmeber 27 before returning home on Saturday, September 28, to face Marquette. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
