Volleyball Grabs Second Win In A Row

The Pirates and the Spartans were matched in both intensity and points early in game one. After a short surge that put the Spartans ahead by a score of 17-15, rallied to tie the game at 17 all. The Spartans would pull ahead once more and eventually walk away with the game one win by a score of 30-22.
In game two, the Pirates jumped out to a big lead, 22-11, behind strong play at the net by senior Robyn Drewes. East Carolina took game two, 30-15.
The two teams traded points early in game three and ECU pushed the lead to 23-17 forcing a UNCG timeout. UNCG regrouped to challenge for the lead at 26-25, but ECU managed to hold onto the lead and take the game, 30-25.
Game four proved to be another close contest as the score remained tied as late as 18-18. ECU took the lead at 19-18 and went on to take the game, 30-23, and the match, 3-1.
Pam Ferris led ECU with 17 kills, 14 digs and four service aces, while Sarah Vick added 16 kills. The Pirates were paced by Jessica Vick and Erica Wilson who had 27 and 26 assists respectively. Drewes finished the night with 14 kills.
"I was extremely pleased with the way we played this evening," said ECU head coach Colleen Munson. "We hope to carry the energy from this win into tomorrow night's match against Marquette and pull out our first conference win of the season."
The Pirates will host the Golden Eagles tomorrow, September 28 at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Marquette is currently 8-4 overall. This will be the first C-USA game of the season for both teams.
