"I am very grateful to Coach John Thompson and the administration at East Carolina for considering me worthy of the position of offensive coordinator," Brindise stated. "It is truly a wonderful opportunity at a very special place. In following my heart, I have decided it is not the best time for me to leave the Redskins and Coach Steve Spurrier. My wife, Jennifer, and I were truly excited about being a part of the Pirate family. Coach Thompson has put together a wonderful staff that will enable ECU to be very successful in the very near future. I want all the students, fans and players at ECU to know what an outstanding man they have leading their football program. He is a class individual that has been a winner every place he has been. I wish ECU all the success in the world and hope to see the purple and gold in the Liberty Bowl."
The 2002 season was Brindise's first in the NFL, where he played a key part in the development of the Redskins' rookie quarterback Patrick Ramsey and also worked with veteran quarterbacks Shane Matthews and Danny Wuerffel. Prior to his move to the NFL, he served three seasons as offensive graduate assistant coach under Spurrier at the University of Florida.
"When you are going after good people, this is the kind of situation that happens sometimes in this business," Thompson said on Wednesday. "Noah has a bright future ahead of him and he was presented with an offer that was in his best interest to accept. We will keep on rolling and will go with another plan to fill our offensive coordinator position."
